India Salutes the Heroes of Operation Sindoor as President Murmu Marks Anniversary of Precision Strike
President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday commemorated the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, praising the Indian Armed Forces for their decisive action against terrorism. ToggleThe Scale of the Military Operation
- Operation Sindoor was officially launched on May 7, 2025, as a targeted strike against terror infrastructure.
- The Indian Armed Forces successfully destroyed nine major terror launchpads located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
- Facilities belonging to prominent terror groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, were specifically targeted.
- Over 100 terrorists were killed in action during the course of the operation.
- The mission demonstrated India’s high-tech precision and strategic capability in neutralizing cross-border threats.

Escalation and Retaliatory Strikes
- Following the initial strikes, Pakistan responded with drone attacks and heavy shelling along the border.
- This led to a four-day intense conflict between the two neighboring countries.
- India showcased a formidable defense, effectively neutralizing incoming aerial threats.
- In retaliatory strikes, Indian forces destroyed critical Radar installations located in Lahore.
- Radar facilities near Gurjanwala were also targeted and neutralized to degrade the adversary’s surveillance capabilities.
Path to Ceasefire and De-escalation
The conflict reached a turning point after the Indian Armed Forces inflicted significant damage on critical infrastructure. Recognizing the scale of the losses, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to the Indian DGMO to initiate a dialogue.
On May 10, 2025, both nations agreed to a ceasefire, bringing an immediate end to the four-day hostilities. This agreement restored a fragile peace along the border, though the event remains a significant milestone in India’s counter-terrorism narrative.

National Resolve Against Terrorism
President Murmu’s address underscored that Operation Sindoor is an example of India’s proactive stance against those who threaten its citizens. She stated that the extraordinary success of the mission reflects the determination of the forces to safeguard the nation.
The anniversary serves as a day for the country to salute the bravery and indomitable spirit of the soldiers who put their lives on the line during the mission.
Remembering the Pahalgam Sacrifice
While celebrating the success of the military response, the nation also paused to remember the victims of the Pahalgam attack. The loss of 26 lives served as the catalyst for Operation Sindoor, shifting India’s strategy toward a more assertive “befitting” response.
The anniversary highlights that the sacrifice of those lost in the terror attack was met with a resolve that ultimately aimed to prevent future tragedies through the total destruction of active terror launchpads.
Vigilance and Future Preparedness
The President concluded her message by reiterating that India remains “united and prepared”. The success of Operation Sindoor has reinforced the nation’s confidence in its military capabilities and strategic planning.
As India observes the first year since the operation, the focus remains on maintaining high vigilance and ensuring that the territorial integrity of the country is never compromised by external forces.
