₹2,000 Monthly Cash & 3 Free LPG: BJP Unveils 2026 Tamil Nadu Manifesto

On the auspicious occasion of Tamil Puthandu (Tamil New Year), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially released its “Sankalpa Patra” (manifesto) for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Unveiled by Union Minister JP Nadda and State President Nainar Nagendran, the document promises a massive welfare surge to challenge the ruling DMK. The BJP, contesting alongside its ally AIADMK in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has made direct cash transfers and household subsidies the centerpiece of its campaign.

Beyond financial doles, the manifesto leans heavily into the party’s Hindutva platform, promising to protect religious traditions and declare Thaipoosam a state festival. The BJP also outlined a futuristic infrastructure roadmap, including high-speed rail corridors and a “Zero-Tolerance” policy for crimes against women. Nagendran described the current DMK rule as “anti-people,” asserting that the NDA is ready to form the next government to restore law and order in the state.

Direct Cash: ₹2,000 Monthly & ₹10,000 Family Grant

The BJP is betting big on “Women-Led Development” by putting money directly into the hands of female heads of households.

  • Monthly Allowance: A guaranteed ₹2,000 per month for women heads of families.
  • One-Time Support: A ₹10,000 grant for every household to offset the rising cost of living.
  • E-Scooter Subsidy: ₹25,000 financial support for eligible women to purchase e-scooters for better mobility.

Household Benefits: 3 Free LPG Cylinders Yearly

To appeal to the domestic sector, the party has promised significant energy subsidies tied to major Tamil cultural events.

  • Festive Cylinders: Three free LPG cylinders annually, delivered on the occasions of Pongal, Tamil Puthandu, and Deepavali.
  • Rationale: The move is designed to support families during peak festive spending periods and counter inflation.

Spiritual Agenda: Thaipoosam & Karthigai Deepam

The manifesto includes specific religious commitments aimed at the state’s Hindu electorate.

  • State Festival: Thaipoosam, dedicated to Lord Murugan, will be declared an official state festival.
  • Hilltop Traditions: The party pledged to ensure the unobstructed lighting of the Karthigai Deepam atop the Thiruparankundram Hill, resolving a long-standing legal and political dispute with the DMK.

Agriculture: "Uzhave Thai" Top-Up for Farmers

Farmers in Tamil Nadu are being offered an additional layer of central and state-integrated support.

  • Financial Boost: Under the Uzhave Thai scheme, the BJP will provide a ₹3,000 top-up to the existing PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.
  • Total Support: This raises the annual direct assistance to ₹9,000 per farmer, aimed at modernizing agricultural practices.
Transport: High-Speed Rail & Sleeper Vande Bharat

The BJP’s infrastructure vision focuses on turning Tamil Nadu into a high-speed transit hub.

  • New Corridors: Proposed High-Speed Rail (HSR) linking Chennai-Bengaluru and Chennai-Hyderabad.
  • Modern Fleet: Launch of Sleeper Vande Bharat trains connecting Chennai with Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
  • Local Rail: Implementation of the Coimbatore-Tiruppur-Salem RRTS and a unique Hydro Power Train project.
Safety & Empowerment: Zero-FIR & Interest-Free Loans

A major portion of the document addresses systemic security for women and economic independence.

  • Justice Reform: Immediate Zero-FIR reporting and Special Fast-Track Courts for sexual offenses.
  • Economic Leverage: Interest-free loans up to ₹50 lakh for women-led cooperatives, SHGs, and MSMEs.
  • Drug Eradication: The creation of a dedicated Tamil Nadu Drug Eradication Department to tackle substance abuse among youth.
