What Piyush Goyal Said Following His Late-Night Meeting With Farmers Who Were Protesting
Chandigarh: As thousands of farmers protests set up camp . and at the Punjab-Haryana border, a panel of Union ministers . but convened a fourth round of discussions with farmer activists here on Sunday to discuss their demands, including a legal guarantee of MSP.
The farmer leaders stated that they will deliberate on the government’s proposal in their forums for the next 48 hours before determining the next steps.
Ministers of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Piyush Goyal, and Arjun Munda, Agriculture . and Farmer protests Welfare, arrived. at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Sector 26 for the discussions.
Attendees included Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The meeting started at 8.15 p.m. on Sunday and ended at roughly one a.m. on Monday.
The farmer leaders stated that they will deliberate on the government's proposal in their forums for the next 48 hours before determining the next steps.
“Cooperative societies like the NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers Federation) . and NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) will enter. into a contract with those farmers who grow ‘tur dal’, ‘urad dal’, ‘masoor dal’ or maize . for buying their crop at MSP for next five years,” said Goyal.
“There will be no limit on. but the quantity (purchased) and a portal will be developed for this,” he stated.
According to Mr. Goyal, it will preserve Punjab’s farming industry . raise the groundwater table. and prevent the already stressed area from becoming barren.
In addition to a legal guarantee of MSP. but the farmers are demanding the following. the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act. 2013, pensions for farmers and farm laborers. waivers of farm debt, police cases against them being dropped. “justice” for the victims of the violence. in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021, pensions for farmers. and farm laborers, and compensation for the families . so of farmers who lost their lives during an earlier agitation in 2020–21.
