What is MS Dhoni doing with the 'Impact Player' rule in the IPL 2024?

Dhoni‘s late batting due to the ‘Impact Player’ rule is one of CSK’s creative plans, which highlight their tactical prowess and collaboration. Rachin and Rizvi’s outstanding performances, the team’s optimistic attitude, and their enthusiasm all play a part in their success. Dhoni did not seem to be coming in with seven hitters out to bat, despite the fact that his followers were becoming a little antsy.

The Chennai Super Kings‘ batting coach, Michael Hussey, claims that the ‘Impact Player’ rule has allowed them to expand their batting order, allowing former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to bat as late as number eight in this IPL.

Since the 2023 edition introduced the ‘Impact Player’ rule, each club is permitted to name five substitutes, one of whom may be used to enter the game in a substitute capacity.

CSK won the game on Tuesday in Chennai over the Gujarat Titans with a score of 206 for six.

“Head coach (Stephen) Fleming has undoubtedly given the order to keep advancing the game. Hussey addressed the media following the game, “The ‘Impact Player’ has lengthened the batting order, with MSD at number eight, which is crazy, and he is batting well (in the nets) at the moment.”

The batters higher up the order can now choose the positive (attacking) path as a result. The captain and coaches support them without a doubt. It’s okay and they won’t face criticism even if they manage to get away with it. We wish to continue playing quickly.”

With a 20-ball 46, New Zealander Rachin Ravindra continued his blazing form.

Rachin’s pre-season work with Hussey, in his own words, was all about allowing him to “play his best cricket”.

It’s amazing to witness; he’s off to a fantastic start. He’s very enthusiastic about learning and wants to have a good influence on the team. He left with an open mind and a pleasant, upbeat demeanor,” he said.

“He’s taking advantage of the time and learning everything he can. He picks up some enthusiasm from the audience as well, and after making a few baskets, he gains confidence and believes he can play on this platform.”

Hussey believes that his first responsibility is to make sure Rachin has a good attitude in order to get the best possible outcomes.

“Considering the elite player he is, there isn’t much area that needs improvement. It’s more about attempting to put them in the greatest possible state of mind so they can play the best cricket possible. Thus, it’s not so much about him getting better as it is about enabling him to enjoy and perform at his best when playing cricket.”
