Virat Kohli will play for Delhi against Railways in the Ranji Trophy.

Virat Kohli is available for Delhi’s final Ranji Trophy league game against Railways, just days after the BCCI released new rules for its contractual players that required them to compete in domestic events.

According to Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), Kohli has affirmed that he is available for the match, which will begin in the Capital on January 30.

The former captain of India will be playing in his first Ranji Trophy match since November 2012 if he does.

After back-to-back Test series defeats at the hands of New Zealand at home and away in Australia

There have been concerns raised by a number of sources over India regulars’ persistent unwillingness to play in domestic first-class matches following back-to-back Test series losses to New Zealand in Australia, both at home and away. Players like Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli decided not to participate in the Duleep Trophy prior to the Test season. Additionally, the main recommendation from last Thursday’s review meeting was to mandate that players compete in home events. Then, for the sixth round of Ranji matches starting on Thursday, Rohit, Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill declared their availability.

However, there was no clarity as to whether Kohli will play against Saurashtra in Rajkot this week

However, it remained unclear if Kohli would participate in this week’s crucial matchup between Delhi and Saurashtra in Rajkot. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the 36-year-old will undoubtedly play in the seventh and final game versus Railways. Sarandeep Singh, the coach of Delhi, stated, “As far as I know, Kohli is available for the game against Railways.”

Kohli hasn’t played in a Ranji match for Delhi since establishing himself as a mainstay in the Test team. His final game was against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad during the 2012–13 season, right before the Test series against England. This was the last time India had lost a Test series at home before they were humiliated 0–3 by New Zealand in November. Since making his Test debut in 2011, Kohli has only played in that match, where he scored 14 and 43 in a loss.
