SSC Verdict: About 26 thousand jobs canceled, full salary refund of expired jobs also ordered

In the last three years, the most talked about issue in Bengali politics is the recruitment ‘corruption’ case. There are many allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in schools. There are complaints in both TET (Primary School) and SSC (Secondary, Higher Secondary). The Tate case is currently under trial in the Supreme Court. The verdict of the SSC job cancellation case is being announced in Calcutta High Court on Monday. A division bench of Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Mohammad Shabbar Rashidi delivered the verdict.

What happened in court?

The division bench of Calcutta High Court Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Mohammad Shabbar Rashidi announced the verdict in the SSC case on Monday. The entire recruitment process of 2016 has been cancelled. As a result, the jobs of 25 thousand 753 people have been cancelled. The court said that those who got jobs even after the expiry of the SSC panel,They will have to pay back their salary with interest. The interest rate will be 12 percent per annum. The court asked to return the salary within four weeks. This judgment in the SSC case is considered to be a big blow to the state government in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections.

Many OMR sheets or answer sheets of SSC recruitment process have already been uploaded on School Service Commission website. Those which have not been uploaded yet, the court directed to upload them soon. The commission should also make arrangements so that people can see the answer sheet. At the same time, the court said, CBI will continue the investigation of this case. The central agency can also take custody of suspects and interrogate them if they want to create additional vacancies.

Everyone’s job has been cancelled, but one person’s job remains. A job seeker named Soma Das is suffering from cancer. A special bench of the High Court did not cancel his employment on humanitarian grounds.

In the last few years, the SSC recruitment ‘corruption’ case has stirred the politics of Bengal. In this case, the then High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay first ordered the termination of employment. That order is upheld in the Division Bench also. After that, the case went to the Supreme Court. From there the cases are sent back to the High Court.

The apex court asked the special bench of the high court to complete the hearing and announce the verdict by May. The hearing was completed within three and a half months. The court announced the verdict on Monday. Justice Basak read out the 281-page verdict in the court.

Refund of salary with interest

The court said that those who got jobs after the expiry of the SSC panel were paid from public money. All must return the salary with interest within four weeks. The money has to be returned with 12 percent interest per annum.

The High Court said that a job seeker named Soma Das will have a job. He is suffering from cancer. The court retained his job on humanitarian grounds.
