Several franchises want a rule change in the IPL, some teams do not agree
Next year IPL will have full auction. Before that, some franchises may propose a change in the rules of the competition to the BCCI. Not all franchisees agree, however.
Franchises want changes in IPL rules. Next year IPL will have full auction. Before that, the franchisee authorities demanded to change the rules. They will give their opinion in this regard to the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI).
As per IPL rules, franchises can retain a maximum of four players before the full auction. The remaining cricketers of the team have to be released for the auction. The franchises want a change in the ‘retention policy’ of cricketers. They demand that eight cricketers should be allowed to retain instead of four.
Many teams or clubs take long-term changes to succeed. This strategy is nothing new in the world of sports. But it is not possible to implement that plan according to the rules of IPL. Because every three years the main team changes. It is difficult to make long term plans with only four cricketers. It also reduces the chances of success.

some teams do not agree
So the authorities of the franchises want to retain the original team. BCCI has called a meeting of franchise authorities in Ahmedabad on April 16. The CEO and top executives of the franchisees are supposed to be in that meeting with the executives. The board will be represented by President Roger Binny, Secretary Jai Shah and Chairman Arun Dhumal.

Keeping in mind next year’s mega auction, policy issues may be discussed in the meeting. How IPL can be taken further will be asked. IPL franchises can propose themselves in this meeting. An IPL franchise authority said, “We will offer to retain more cricketers in the interest of IPL development. Retaining the core team has multiple advantages.”
Most of the franchises are in favor of retaining eight cricketers but there is no consensus on this. Franchises whose teams are relatively weak are less likely. Because those franchise authorities will try to build a strong team in next year’s full auction.
If other franchises leave more cricketers, the number of good cricketers in the auction will naturally decrease. Again if fewer cricketers are retained, the number of good cricketers in the auction will be higher. Hence the matter was not agreed between the franchisees.
