This election is very important because it comes soon after the December 2023 assembly polls, in which the BRS, led by K Chandrashekar Rao, lost the state to Congress due to a setback. The BRS, formerly known as the TRS, has dominated state politics ever since Telangana was formed in 2013.
Telangana saw a fiercely contested race in the most recent general election, with the BRS gaining 9 of the 17 seats and a 35% vote share. With a 10.4% vote share, the BJP secured 4 seats, while the Congress—which is now in power in the state—won 3 seats.
Adilabad, Peddapalle, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Zahirabad, Medak, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Chevella, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Bhongir, Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Khammam are among the 17 constituencies that make up the state. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are entitled to five of these constituencies.
Telangana’s 62.77% voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was lower than the national average. On the other hand, there is hope that the electorate will be more engaged and enthusiastic in the approaching elections.
Voters from all around Telangana will cast ballots in the single-phase election on May 13 to choose their members to the Lok Sabha. Telangana’s election scene is set up for an exciting struggle as political parties prepare for their campaigns and coalitions. As the election day draws near, keep checking back for information and updates.
