NEW DELHI: In advance of the Indian Premier League (the IPL super auction), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to release new player retention guidelines. Additionally, rumors suggest that the eagerly anticipated auction in November would probably take place outside of India. The Indian Express reported that IPL teams might be able to keep up to five players, eliminating the Right to Match (RTM) option. Teams like the Mumbai Indians, who may be able to keep hold of important players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma, may gain from this move. The owners of all ten IPL clubs recently met at BCCI headquarters to talk about player retention. The majority of owners agreed that keeping five or six players would preserve team continuity and brand value. In order to maintain this continuity, the BCCI makes sure that the auction is competitive.
However, the question of whether teams can keep more than two foreign players is still up for debate. Additionally undetermined are the precise player retention expenses. the IPL super auction
Under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, the Mumbai Indians, who usually have a stable core, might decide to keep their key players even though they haven’t performed well this season.
In addition, other teams like the Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) want to hold onto their stars. Additionally, it is said that they have asked for the big player auctions, which are typically held every four or five years, to be postponed. Shah Rukh Khan, a co-owner of KKR, proposed delaying the auctions in order to keep talented players invested.
The last two big auctions were in 2018 and 2022, and many teams would rather have stability than make big changes frequently. November’s auction is most likely to take place outside of India.
Rumor had it that MS Dhoni’s uncapped status was requested by CSK management. Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, refuted these reports, nonetheless. The reinstatement of the ‘uncapped player rule,’ which was eliminated in 2021, could mean another IPL season for CSK supporters wearing the yellow jersey.
