"Syndicate-Driven" TMC Government Denies Bengal Basic Needs Like Fish: PM Modi in Haldia
Launching a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday termed the state government a “syndicate-driven” system where no development or investment can proceed without “cut money” or commissions. Addressing a massive poll rally in the industrial hub of Haldia, the Prime Minister highlighted the irony of West Bengal—a state with a historic love for fish—remaining dependent on imports to meet its domestic demand.
The rally, held on April 9, 2026, comes as a major push for the BJP ahead of the two-phase Assembly elections scheduled for later this month.
The "Fish Politics": Failure in Self-Reliance
The Prime Minister pointed out that despite the immense natural resources and demand, West Bengal has failed to become self-reliant in fish production under the TMC’s 15-year rule.

Addressing the industrial decline in Haldia, the Prime Minister emphasized that “factories run on trust, not on syndicates.”
