Israel Launches Wide-Scale Strikes on Tehran as Iran Expands Retaliatory Attacks

The conflict between Israel and Iran intensified on Monday as Israel announced it had begun wide-scale strikes targeting locations in Tehran, Isfahan and parts of southern Iran. The escalation comes amid growing regional tensions following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran.

Iran responded by firing missiles toward Israel shortly after the appointment of the Islamic republic’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. State broadcaster IRIB confirmed that the strikes marked Tehran’s latest retaliation in the expanding confrontation across West Asia.

Regional Attacks Raise Security Concerns

The conflict has spread beyond Israel and Iran, with several Gulf nations reporting drone and missile attacks. Bahrain said an Iranian drone strike on the island of Sitra injured 32 people overnight, including children. Authorities confirmed that four individuals were seriously wounded.

Meanwhile, explosions were reported in Doha while warning sirens sounded in Bahrain as aerial attacks continued across the region. Gulf countries hosting U.S. military facilities have remained on high alert since Iran launched its retaliatory campaign following the initial U.S.-Israeli strikes.

Iran Rejects Possibility of Immediate Ceasefire

Iranian officials signalled that negotiations remain unlikely while military operations continue. The Foreign Ministry indicated that talks would not be considered as long as Iran remains under attack.

The situation has further intensified following the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s Supreme Leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier in the conflict. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have pledged loyalty to the new leader, vowing full support for the country’s military response.

Missile Incidents Reported in Turkey and Iraq

Turkey’s Defence Ministry said NATO air defence systems intercepted a second Iranian ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace. Some debris reportedly fell in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, though no casualties were reported.

In neighbouring Iraq, an airstrike targeted a base linked to the Hashed al-Shaabi near Mosul. Local officials said the strike hit a facility in Nineveh province, amid a series of attacks on groups believed to have ties with Iran.

Oil Prices Surge Amid Supply Fears

Global energy markets reacted sharply to the intensifying conflict. Brent crude prices climbed above $114 per barrel on Monday, the highest level since 2022.

Analysts say the surge reflects growing fears that the conflict could disrupt oil production and shipping routes in the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz — a key global energy corridor.

Global Leaders Monitor Escalating Crisis

The widening conflict has prompted diplomatic activity across Europe and the Middle East. French President Emmanuel Macron travelled to Cyprus to discuss regional security while France deployed naval assets and defence systems to the Mediterranean.

Meanwhile, Hungary called on the European Union to consider suspending sanctions on Russian energy as rising oil prices begin to affect fuel costs and economic stability.

Rising Tensions Across the Middle East

As military strikes continue and diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, the confrontation between Israel and Iran is raising fears of a broader regional conflict. With missile attacks, drone strikes and military deployments spreading across multiple countries, global leaders are closely monitoring the situation for signs of further escalation.
