Strategic Consensus: Government Convenes India All-Party Meet on West Asia Emergency on March 25, 2026

In a major bid to forge a unified national front, the Government of India has officially summoned an all-party meeting for March 25 at 5 PM. The move comes as the West Asia crisis enters a perilous second month, following the high-profile assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. With the Strait of Hormuz remains a primary target for Iranian retaliation, New Delhi is shifting its focus from internal military audits to a broader political consensus on national security.

This emergency diplomatic move underscores the gravity of a conflict that has now spiraled beyond a localized skirmish into a systemic threat to India’s maritime interests. By bringing all political stakeholders to the table, the administration aims to present a cohesive domestic front to the international community, ensuring that national security remains insulated from partisan divides as the risk of a full-scale regional war looms.

From War-Room to Round-Table

The announcement follows a marathon security session chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday. While that meeting focused on the technical readiness of the Indian Navy and Air Force, Wednesday’s India all-party meeting is designed to address the political and economic anxieties gripping the country.

  • The Briefing: Leaders from all major factions will be briefed on the “whole-of-government” approach to mitigate shipping disruptions.
  • Consensus Building: The government aims to present a “unanimous voice” to the global community, asserting India’s strategic autonomy and its demand for an immediate ceasefire.

PM Modi Warns of "Worrisome" Energy Reality

Ahead of the all-party meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the gravity of the situation in the Lok Sabha. Describing the conflict as “worrisome,” the PM noted that the Strait of Hormuz serves as the lifeblood for India’s crude oil, gas, and fertilizer imports.

“This conflict has a severe impact on the global economy… that is why the world is urging all sides for an early resolution,” the PM stated, emphasizing that India’s trade relations with war-affected nations remain a top priority.

Opposition Demands "Outcome-Based" Dialogue

The road to the all-party meeting has not been without friction. Opposition parties have called for more than just a briefing, demanding a full-fledged debate in Parliament. Critics have labeled recent government statements as “partisan dialogue-baazi,” urging the administration to provide concrete data on LPG shortages and the rising cost of essential commodities. Wednesday’s session will be a critical test of whether India’s political class can set aside domestic rivalry to address a once-in-a-generation regional war.
