Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro Launching June
The long-awaited Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro is finally nearing its debut. Part of the Namma Metro network, this new line will connect R.V. Road to Bommasandra, covering a stretch of 19.15 kilometers. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has confirmed that partial operations may begin as early as June 2025, offering a major boost to the city’s public transportation system—especially for commuters in south Bengaluru and Electronics City.

Final Steps Before Operation
The Yellow Line has been physically ready for some time, but delays in the arrival of driverless trains postponed its opening. Recently, BMRCL received crucial clearance from the Railway Board for the new metro trains, and a third train is expected to be ready in a few days. However, before the metro can become operational, it must pass an essential safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).

ToggleBMRCL has submitted most of the required documentation, and the final certificate is on its way. If everything goes according to plan, the CMRS inspection will likely take place by the end of May. After that, BMRCL estimates an additional two weeks for any required adjustments, potentially allowing for a mid- to late-June launch.

What Will Open First?
When operations begin, it will likely be in a phased manner—meaning only key stations on the Yellow Line will be operational initially. This cautious approach allows BMRCL to manage ridership and technical issues effectively during the early days of the launch.
While the full stretch includes major locations like R.V. Road, Ragigudda, Jayadeva, Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, and Bommasandra, the initial service may run between a few primary stations only. The complete rollout will follow after performance and safety are thoroughly verified.

A Critical Link for South Bengaluru
The Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro is more than just another metro route—it’s a vital connector for thousands of people working and living in the southern part of the city. One of the biggest beneficiaries of this line will be Electronics City, home to several IT parks and multinational companies. The Yellow Line is expected to significantly reduce commute time, ease road congestion, and improve connectivity to other metro lines.
Once fully operational, this corridor will allow easy interchange with other lines of the Namma Metro, enabling seamless travel across Bengaluru.

Delays and Challenges
The project, although crucial, faced numerous setbacks. In 2019, CRRC, a Chinese company, was awarded the contract to supply metro coaches. Part of the agreement was to build a manufacturing facility in India, but CRRC failed to deliver on that promise, causing prolonged delays. BMRCL issued several warnings and even considered invoking a ₹372-crore bank guarantee.
To salvage the situation, CRRC eventually partnered with Titagarh Rail Systems, an Indian firm. This collaboration helped resume train manufacturing and delivery, although the process continued to move slower than expected.
Trial Runs and Readiness
BMRCL began trial runs on March 7, 2024, with two trains operating along the Yellow Line. These test runs are a crucial part of ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the system. A third train is expected to be ready shortly, increasing capacity and bringing the metro closer to readiness.
The BMRCL is now conducting final inspections, software testing, and last-mile integration, ensuring everything is in place before the Yellow Line opens its doors to passengers.
Why the Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro Matters
Improved Connectivity: The Yellow Line will link vital areas of South Bengaluru, including Bommasandra and Electronics City, with central and northern parts of the city.
Time Savings: Daily commuters can expect faster travel times, reducing dependency on buses and private vehicles.
Reduced Traffic Congestion: With more people opting for metro travel, road traffic in some of the most congested parts of Bengaluru is expected to ease.
Eco-Friendly Transit: Metro trains offer a sustainable mode of transportation, helping reduce carbon emissions in a city plagued by pollution and vehicular density.
What Commuters Should Expect
When the Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro opens, passengers can expect:
Modern, driverless metro trains
Clean, accessible stations
Digital ticketing and smart card support
Air-conditioned coaches and real-time tracking
Connections to other metro lines for broader city access
Though only a portion of the route may open initially, even limited service will be a significant relief to commuters in the southern corridors.
What’s Next?
After the CMRS inspection and approval, BMRCL will announce the official opening date and the operational route details. Regular updates are expected through BMRCL’s official channels and the Namma Metro website. With the third train almost ready and infrastructure in place, the wait may finally be over for south Bengaluru residents.
Conclusion: A New Era for Bengaluru Commuters
The Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro stands as a transformative infrastructure project that could change the way the city travels. Despite challenges, delays, and global supply issues, BMRCL’s persistence may finally pay off as the metro nears its first phase of operation in June. Whether you’re a daily office-goer in Electronics City or a resident of HSR Layout, this line promises faster, safer, and greener travel in the Silicon Valley of India.
Stay tuned as Bengaluru takes one more step toward becoming a truly metro-connected city.
