'Friends' of Iran claim responsibility for the missile attack on an oil tanker headed towards India in the Red Sea.
Attacks on foreign cargo ships have been happening in the Red Sea and surrounding waters since late November. A number of armed groups have been attacking in support of the Palestinians as a result of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Another missile attack in the Red Sea. An oil tanker headed for India was targeted by missiles. The incident was attributed to the Houthi faction in Yemen, which is supported by Iran. Their missile was meant to strike a tanker in Gujarat. The sailor said that the missile attack caused multiple damages to the oil tanker.
The oil tanker headed for India was constructed in Britain. The ship belonged to Britain. However, it was sold recently. The East African nation of Seychelles is now the owner of the oil tanker, according to the British Maritime Security Force. Russian oil was being transported by the tanker. It then traveled to Gujarat over the Red Sea. The place of destination was the Gujarati port city of Badina.
In the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Iran and its “friendly” nations are siding with the Palestinians. The Houthis, an armed group in Yemen, have long supported the Palestinian cause. In the last few months, there have been attacks on foreign trade ships in the Red Sea region.
The Houthis claim that in regions like the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, they attack any ship that engages in trade with nations such as Israel and its ally, America.

The oil tanker that the Houthis opened fire on in the Red Sea was flying a Panamanian flag, a spokesman for the group said early on Saturday. The British are the owners of the ship. Despite claims to the contrary from Britain’s marine security agencies, the ship is currently owned by an East African nation.

Because of concerns about possible Houthi strikes, international shipping in the Red Sea has been hampered since last November. Seafarers’ dread forces them to look for other ways. It is purported that the missiles are not aimed at Israeli ships, but rather at any cargo ship. Attacks are occurring without discrimination. Ships headed for India were also targeted on Saturday.
