Arunachal Pradesh 2024 Lok Sabha Election: Date, timetable, and constituency information

The Election Commission of India (EC) declared that the assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Arunachal Pradesh will take place simultaneously on April 19 in a single phase. Voter tallying is scheduled for June 4.

There will be seven stages to the 2024 elections. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said that the first phase would take place on April 19, the second on April 26, the third on May 7, the fourth on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the seventh on June 1.

Northeastern Indian state Arunachal Pradesh has two Lok Sabha seats: Arunachal Pradesh East and Arunachal Pradesh West.

In the Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency, Kiren Rijiju of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Indian National Congressman Nabam Tuki in the 2014 elections. In the Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency, Tapir Gao of the BJP defeated Lowangcha Wanglat of the INC by a commanding majority of 69,948 votes. 

As stated in the first candidate list, Kiren and Tapir have been selected by the BJP to represent Arunachal Pradesh in the next elections. In addition to being a member of parliament for Arunachal West in the Lok Sabha since 2014, Kiren Rijiju has also served as the cabinet minister of earth sciences for the Government of India since 2023. He previously held this position from 2004 to 2009.

In contrast, Tapir Gao is in charge of the Arunachal Pradesh BJP section. He was the BJP’s representative for Arunachal East while he was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. Despite losing in 2009 and 2014, Tapir made it back to Parliament in 2019 when he won the Lok Sabha elections.

The general elections that are planned to take place in tandem with the 2024 Indian general election also include elections for the Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh.
