Bihar’s political environment is fraught with anticipation ahead of the 2024 elections. The BJP-Nitish Kumar coalition has garnered a lot of attention, particularly because Bihar is still a crucial battleground for the Congress and the BJP.
The goal of the BJP’s reformed alliance with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) is to perform better in the next elections. But Tejashwi Yadav, the son of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav, and the RJD will be fierce rivals.
The BJP secured 22 seats and the JD(U) 16 seats in the last general election. Together, the two parties ran for office, with the BJP emerging as their main ally. Six seats were obtained by the LJP, another NDA member. In the interim, the Congress, only one seat in Bihar was won by a member of the Mahagathbandhan.
In a noteworthy move, the BJP is now running in this election as the senior ally, surpassing Nitish Kumar’s party. While the JD(U) will field candidates in 16 constituencies, the BJP will run for 17 seats. Other allies of the NDA will run for the remaining 7 seats.
In general, observers will be closely monitoring the Bihar Lok Sabha elections as political parties prepare for a tough contest to win a majority in this vital core state.
