The Election Commission of India (ECI), chaired by CEC Rajiv Kumar, has released the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Beginning on April 19, there will be seven phases to the general election for the 543 Lok Sabha seats, as Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar declared on Saturday. On June 4, the counting will take place.
Two days after Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu were appointed as two new Election Commissioners, the date of the 2024 Lok Sabha election was announced. Following Arun Goel’s unexpected departure last week and Anup Chandra Pandey’s retirement on February 14, the new ECs were appointed.
Following the announcement of the Lok Sabha election date in 2024, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into effect. This means that political parties, candidates, and the government will have to adhere to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) prescribed guidelines regarding their speeches, announcements, election manifestos, and other related matters.
