"We Want Academic Atmosphere, Not Chaos!": PM Modi’s Fiery Call for Change

In a high-stakes campaign address in Jadavpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, focusing his critique on the deteriorating state of West Bengal’s educational institutions and the ongoing issue of illegal immigration. As the 2026 Assembly elections intensify, the Prime Minister framed the Jadavpur constituency as a decisive battleground, arguing that the future of the state’s youth and its cultural identity hangs in the balance.

Addressing a massive gathering, PM Modi brought the political temperature to a boiling point, demanding accountability for the systemic issues he claimed were plaguing Bengal under the current regime. He specifically highlighted the campus environment at Jadavpur University, challenging the incumbent government’s ability to protect the state’s educational heritage and positioning his platform as the only viable path to restoration and growth.

The Crisis at Jadavpur University

A significant portion of the PM’s speech was dedicated to the condition of Jadavpur University. Once celebrated globally as a “bedrock of nationalism,” the Prime Minister lamented its current state.

He alleged that the campus environment has been compromised, citing reports of “anti-national slogans” scrawled on walls and an atmosphere defined by threats rather than learning. He insisted that the students deserve an “academic atmosphere” that fosters dialogue, not the “chaos” currently prevailing.

Failure to Preserve Educational Institutions

PM Modi questioned the competency of the state government in preserving its own institutions. He posited that a government unable to protect or manage the integrity of the state’s largest educational institution is ill-equipped to safeguard the future of Bengal’s youth.

His rhetoric underscored a broader narrative of administrative failure, suggesting that the rot in the university is a symptom of a larger governance vacuum in West Bengal.

Addressing Illegal Immigration Concerns

The Prime Minister didn’t stop at education; he directly targeted the TMC’s policy stance on demographics and security. He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of settling illegal immigrants in the state, alleging that this influx is not only occupying local lands but also stripping away livelihoods from the indigenous population.

This, he argued, has fundamentally altered Bengal’s social and cultural identity over the last 15 years.

Corruption and the Promise of Change

Drawing a stark contrast, PM Modi described the current political landscape as a choice between TMC corruption and BJP’s promised transformation.

He suggested that the state’s youth are being forced to leave their homes in search of work due to the dual pressures of governmental corruption and the “oppression of infiltrators.” He exhorted the public to defeat the TMC decisively, framing the upcoming results as the only path to a permanent solution for these woes.

The High-Stakes Battle in Jadavpur

The constituency of Jadavpur, once a stronghold for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) under former CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, remains one of the most prestigious seats in the state.

The current electoral contest is a multi-cornered fight featuring BJP candidate Sarbari Mukherjee against TMC’s sitting MLA Debabrata Majumdar, with the CPI(M) fielding former Mayor Bikashranjan Bhattacharya to reclaim their lost bastion.

Record Turnout and the Road Ahead

The first phase of the Assembly elections has already concluded, with West Bengal recording an impressive voter turnout of 92.88%, signaling high levels of civic engagement and urgency.

With security measures tightened across all constituencies, the political focus now shifts to the second phase scheduled for April 29. The final mandate, which will shape the state’s future, will be unveiled on May 4 when the votes are counted.
