BJP Unveils 'Sonar Bangla' Roadmap: 15-Point Manifesto Targets TMC Stronghold for 2026 Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Sankalp Patra’ on Friday, framing the 2026 Assembly elections as a definitive battle to transition West Bengal from “despair to development”. Positioning the manifesto as a roadmap for a “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bengal), Shah asserted that the document aligns strictly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat. The strategy focuses on four core pillars: national security, massive job creation, women’s empowerment, and the eradication of systemic corruption.

Addressing a high-stakes press conference, Shah launched a scathing critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that 15 years of their governance has resulted in a complete breakdown of law and order. “People gave Mamata Didi a mandate with great hope, but today they are seeking change from the heart,” Shah stated. He emphasized that the manifesto is designed to provide a “new way out” for farmers and youth who feel disillusioned by the current administration, signaling the BJP’s intent to move from its role as the main opposition to the governing power in the state.

National Security: The "Detect, Delete, Deport" Policy

The cornerstone of the BJP’s 2026 pitch is a hardline stance on border integrity. Amit Shah pledged a strict crackdown on infiltration to safeguard national security, assuring voters that illegal entrants will be identified and removed through a systematic “detect, delete, and deport” policy. This is coupled with a vow to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and introduce stringent new laws to end cattle smuggling across the border.

Economic Rebirth: 1 Crore Jobs & DA Parity

To woo the youth and the middle class, the BJP has laid out an ambitious economic roadmap:

  • Employment: A commitment to generate 1 crore jobs and self-employment opportunities over the next five years.
  • Unemployment Support: An immediate financial cushion of ₹10,000 for unemployed youth to address rising joblessness.
  • Government Employees: A promise to end the long-standing dispute over Dearness Allowance (DA) by implementing the 7th Pay Commission recommendations within a stipulated timeframe.

Women’s Empowerment: "Durga Suraksha Sahaya"

Targeting the crucial female electorate, the manifesto proposes a significant shift in social welfare:

  • Direct Cash Transfer: Monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for women beneficiaries.
  • Safety & Policing: The formation of women-only police battalions and the launch of the “Durga Suraksha Sahaya” scheme.
  • Job Reservation: A landmark 33% reservation for women in all state government positions.

Zero Tolerance for Corruption

The BJP has promised to release a detailed white paper highlighting alleged corruption and governance failures during the 15-year rule of the TMC. To tackle grassroots-level issues, the manifesto proposes:

  • Ending “Syndicate” Culture: A total crackdown on localized extortion networks.
  • Curbing “Cut Money”: Implementing strict legal measures to stop illegal commissions on government welfare schemes.

Agriculture, Fisheries, and Industrial Growth:

The manifesto aims to modernize Bengal’s traditional sectors to boost income:

  • Farmer Support: Enhanced support for rice, potato, and mango crops.
  • Fisheries Hub: Registering all fishermen under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana to transform the state into a global export hub.
  • Industrial Revival: Plans to modernize the jute industry and strengthen the global branding of Darjeeling tea.

Health, Education, and Infrastructure:

The BJP pledged to integrate West Bengal into central development schemes that were previously stalled:

  • Healthcare: Immediate implementation of Ayushman Bharat and free HPV vaccinations for women.
  • Education: The expansion of premier institutions like AIIMS, IIT, and IIM specifically into North Bengal to address regional disparity.
Cultural Identity and Heritage

The party is leaning into regional sentiments to counter the “outsider” narrative:

  • Linguistic Recognition: Proposing the inclusion of Kurmali and Rajbanshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
  • National Heritage: Establishing a ‘Vande Mataram’ museum and enacting laws to ensure the total freedom of religious practices.
The 2026 Election Timeline
  • Manifesto Launch: April 10, 2026
  • Phase 1 Polling: Expected Late April 2026
  • Result Declaration: Expected May 2026
