PM Modi Outlines India’s Vision for the Next Global Growth Phase at NXT Summit 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12 addressed the NXT Summit 2026, saying India is moving steadily toward the goal of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) while navigating global crises such as wars, disrupted supply chains, and energy challenges. He said the world increasingly looks to India as a key force shaping the future global economy and geopolitical balance.

Drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Dandi March of 1930, Modi said India is now on another national journey—one aimed at achieving development, self-reliance, and technological leadership.

Inspiration from the Dandi March

The Prime Minister said March 12 holds historic significance as it marks the day when Mahatma Gandhi began the Dandi Yatra from Sabarmati Ashram, a movement that united the country during the freedom struggle.

According to Modi, nearly a century later, India is undertaking another collective journey—this time toward becoming a developed nation. He said platforms like the NXT Summit play an important role in shaping ideas and discussions that can contribute to this national mission.

India’s Rising Global Role

Modi said India is gaining increasing global attention at a time when international institutions face questions about their relevance and geopolitical tensions continue to rise.

He cited remarks from several world leaders who see India as a key driver of the future global order. Finland’s President Alexander Stubb recently said the Global South will play a decisive role in shaping the world, with India at its centre.

Similarly, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said the global economic centre of gravity is shifting toward India, while French President Emmanuel Macron described India as an essential partner in solving major global challenges.

Growing Confidence in India’s Economy

The Prime Minister said interest in the performance of the Indian economy has grown significantly among citizens and global observers alike.

Using the example of India’s recent T20 World Cup victory, Modi compared the excitement of cricket fans checking match scores to people closely tracking updates on the economy. According to him, this curiosity reflects rising aspirations and confidence among Indians, which is strengthening global trust in the country.

Next Generation Infrastructure and Technology

Highlighting India’s development progress, Modi said the country is investing heavily in next-generation infrastructure and digital systems.

He pointed out that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has transformed digital payments, making India the fastest-growing real-time payments market in the world. The government is also focusing on emerging sectors such as space exploration, semiconductor manufacturing, and quantum technology missions.

These initiatives, he said, are pushing India toward the next frontier of innovation and technological capability.

Major Structural Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has implemented several major structural reforms over the past decade that were once considered politically difficult.

He cited the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the expansion of financial inclusion through more than 50 crore Jan Dhan accounts, and the abolition of the Triple Talaq practice as examples of decisive policy changes.

Modi also referred to the Women’s Reservation Bill, which provides 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, describing it as an important step toward greater political participation and equality.

Strengthening Energy Security and Infrastructure

Addressing concerns over global fuel supply disruptions, the Prime Minister said conflicts such as the West Asia crisis and the Russia–Ukraine war have affected global energy markets.

He said the government has focused on strengthening India’s energy infrastructure to maintain supply stability.

According to Modi, domestic LPG connections have increased from 14 crore in 2014 to around 33 crore today, while LPG bottling capacity has doubled.

India’s gas pipeline network has expanded from about 3,500 kilometres to nearly 10,000 kilometres, and the number of LNG terminals has also increased.

The city gas distribution network has grown significantly, with PNG connections crossing 1.25 crore households and CNG vehicles rising to over 70 lakh.

Renewable Energy Growth and Development Push

The Prime Minister highlighted the rapid expansion of renewable energy as a key part of India’s long-term development strategy.

India’s total renewable energy capacity has crossed 250 gigawatts, while solar power capacity has grown from 2 gigawatts in 2014 to around 130 gigawatts today.

Government initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana have encouraged households to adopt rooftop solar systems, with nearly 30 lakh homes already participating.

Modi also noted that ethanol blending in petrol has increased from about 1 percent to nearly 20 percent, helping reduce crude oil imports and saving foreign exchange.

He added that development programmes in aspirational districts and underserved regions, along with progress in reducing Left-wing extremism, are part of India’s broader mission to achieve Viksit Bharat.

India’s Path Toward Viksit Bharat

Concluding his address at the NXT Summit 2026, Modi said the aspirations of 140 crore Indians are driving the country toward faster progress.

He said the government sees these expectations not as a burden but as a sign of public trust and confidence. With continued reforms, technological progress, and national unity, Modi said India will move steadily toward becoming a developed and self-reliant nation.
