Google Brings Built-In AI Features to Chrome in India With Support for 8 Indic Languages

Google has announced the integration of built-in artificial intelligence (AI) features into its Chrome browser for users in India, aiming to make web browsing more intuitive, secure and productive. The company said the new tools are designed to help people search, understand and interact with information more efficiently while using the browser.

As part of the rollout, the new capabilities will support more than 50 languages, including several Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil. The company said the initiative reflects its efforts to make AI tools more accessible to a diverse group of internet users across India.

AI Features Powered by Gemini 3.1 Model

The new capabilities are powered by Google’s latest Gemini 3.1 AI model, which forms the foundation of the company’s advanced AI systems.

According to Google, the integration will allow users to perform a range of tasks directly within the browser without needing to switch between multiple tabs or applications. The AI system can assist users in finding information, summarising web pages, generating content and answering queries in real time.

The company said the aim is to enable users to get the most out of their browser by providing intelligent assistance while browsing the web.

India Among First Markets to Receive the Feature

Google said India will be among the first global markets to receive the new Chrome AI features after the United States.

Charmaine Dsilva, Director of Product Management for Chrome at Google, said the browser has become an essential tool for people to learn, work and connect online.

She said integrating AI directly into Chrome is expected to create more proactive and intelligent browsing experiences for users.

Dsilva added that India’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem and strong adoption of new technologies make it an important market for the rollout of emerging AI tools.

Browsing Assistant Available Inside Chrome

One of the key additions is the Gemini-powered browsing assistant, which will allow users to interact with AI while staying on the same web page.

By clicking an icon located in the top-right corner of the browser tab, users can start a conversation with the AI assistant. The assistant can answer questions, provide explanations and help users complete tasks without requiring them to open new tabs.

This feature is designed to make browsing more efficient and interactive, especially for people who frequently search for information or work across multiple websites.

Tools for Learning, Productivity and Research

Google said Chrome’s built-in AI tools will provide several practical features aimed at improving learning and productivity. For example, the AI assistant can summarise long web pages, helping users quickly understand key points from lengthy articles or documents.

Students preparing for exams can also ask the assistant to generate quizzes or practice questions based on the content they are reading online. In addition, the AI system can help users locate previously visited pages by recalling information from earlier browsing sessions. This feature may allow users to close extra tabs while still being able to retrieve information later.

Integration With Gmail and Other Tasks

Google also said the AI integration extends to email tasks within Gmail.

Using the Chrome side panel, users can ask the assistant to compose an email without leaving the page they are currently viewing. The AI can help draft messages, make edits and prepare the email before sending it.

Once the message is ready, users can review the content and send it with a single click, making communication faster and more convenient.

Initial Availability on Desktop and iOS

According to Google, the new AI features will initially be available for Chrome users on desktop computers and iOS devices.

The company has not yet announced a timeline for wider availability across other platforms, but the rollout is expected to expand gradually.

Google said the integration of AI directly into Chrome represents an important step in making everyday web browsing smarter and more efficient.

As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded in digital tools, technology companies are increasingly focusing on bringing AI assistance directly into commonly used platforms such as browsers, search engines and communication services.

With this latest update, Google hopes to provide users with a more intelligent and seamless browsing experience, while also expanding access to AI tools for millions of internet users in India.
