Viksit Bharat: PM Modi Calls for Excellence in Manufacturing & Services
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon States to actively promote manufacturing, enhance the Ease of Doing Business, and collectively work towards making India a global services and manufacturing hub. He emphasized that States must play a central role in creating investor-friendly ecosystems and modern infrastructure to attract global companies.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing the fifth National Conference of Chief Secretaries in New Delhi, which concluded recently. The three-day conference, held from December 26, focused on the theme “Human Capital for Viksit Bharat”, highlighting the role of people-centric development in India’s growth trajectory.
National Manufacturing Mission to Drive Growth
The Prime Minister was addressing the fifth National Conference of Chief Secretaries in New Delhi, which concluded recently. The three-day conference, held from December 26, focused on the theme “Human Capital for Viksit Bharat”, highlighting the importance of people-centric development in India’s growth journey.
Highlighting India’s Demographic Advantage for Viksit Bharat
Highlighting India’s demographic strength, Mr Modi noted that nearly 70 per cent of the population is in the working-age group, presenting a unique historical opportunity. He stressed that combining this demographic advantage with economic reforms and skill development can significantly accelerate India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat.
Reform Express and Youth Empowerment
The Prime Minister remarked that India has boarded the “Reform Express”, driven largely by the aspirations and energy of its young population. Empowering youth through education, skills, and employment opportunities remains a top government priority.
Excellence in Manufacturing and ‘Made in India’ Vision
PM Modi emphasized the importance of quality and efficiency in manufacturing. He stated that the “Made in India” label must evolve into a global symbol of excellence and competitiveness. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to “Zero Defect, Zero Effect”, encouraging industries to produce world-class products while minimising environmental impact.
Tourism, Sports, and High-Value Agriculture
The Prime Minister highlighted tourism’s potential to create jobs and urged States to develop at least one globally competitive tourist destination. He also stressed aligning India’s sports calendar with global standards as the country prepares to bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, encouraging early talent identification and investment in sports infrastructure. Regarding agriculture, Mr Modi suggested a shift towards high-value agriculture, dairy, and fisheries, with a focus on exports to strengthen India’s position as a global food supplier.
Digitising Knowledge through Gyan Bharatam Mission
PM Modi encouraged States to use the Gyan Bharatam Mission to digitise ancient manuscripts. Once digitised, artificial intelligence can help synthesise and preserve India’s traditional knowledge, contributing to a modern, knowledge-based economy.
10-Year Action Plans for a Developed India
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister urged every State to prepare 10-year actionable plans with clearly defined 1-year, 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year targets, supported by technology-driven monitoring systems. He stressed that such structured planning is essential for achieving the long-term vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The conference also emphasized special themes including Early Childhood Education, Schooling, Skilling, Higher Education, and Sports and Extracurricular Activities, recognising their critical role in building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready workforce.
