Google Pixel 10 Launch Set for August 20 in New York: Foldable Phone, Tensor G5 Chip, and More Expected
Google Pixel 10 launch is officially set for August 20 in New York, where the tech giant will unveil its latest Pixel hardware. The event invitation, sent out to select members of the media, teases exciting upgrades, including a foldable Pixel device and new smartphones powered by Google’s most advanced in-house chipset yet—the Tensor G5.
Following its tradition of showcasing flagship devices ahead of Apple’s iPhone reveals in September, Google is once again aiming to grab headlines early. Last year, the Pixel 9 series and smartwatches were unveiled in August, and this year’s lineup is expected to push innovation even further.

Foldable Pixel: Google’s Boldest Move Yet
One of the most anticipated highlights of the Google Pixel 10 launch is the introduction of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Building on Google's momentum in the foldable space, this device could mark the company’s most premium offering yet. While reports suggest that it may not be as slim or light as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Pixel Fold is expected to carry powerful specs and deep software optimization.
Though priced at a premium, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is likely to serve as both a design statement and a showcase for Google’s Android and AI capabilities. The move also intensifies competition in the foldable segment, which is rapidly gaining traction among premium smartphone users.

Pixel 10 Series: Refined Design with Performance Upgrades
The standard Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are expected to maintain the minimalist aesthetic seen in the Pixel 9 lineup but introduce notable upgrades under the hood. Chief among these is the switch to the Tensor G5 processor, Google's next-generation chipset. In a significant shift, the G5 will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), moving away from Samsung’s foundry.
This transition is expected to improve power efficiency, thermal management, and overall performance. Coupled with new AI-centric features, the Pixel 10 phones are positioned to deliver a fluid and smarter user experience.

AI Takes Center Stage
As hardware gradually takes a backseat, Google is doubling down on its real strength—artificial intelligence. The Pixel 10 launch will likely emphasize software enhancements such as Gemini Live, a conversational AI assistant that brings real-time intelligence to users via voice interaction. Gemini is deeply integrated into the Android ecosystem, offering context-aware features and personalized suggestions.
In contrast to Apple, which is still ramping up its AI efforts, Google aims to lead the AI-powered smartphone future. The Pixel serves as a platform for Google to showcase innovations like on-device translation, enhanced photo editing, call screening, and AI-powered summaries—features that align with the future of mobile computing.

Industry Partnerships and Strategic Visibility
In a sign of growing collaboration, Google’s hardware chief Rick Osterloh was recently spotted at Samsung’s Unpacked event in New York. The two companies have been working closely to bring new AI features to Samsung’s foldable devices, including the Galaxy Fold and Flip series.
This strategic alignment shows that while the Pixel lineup may not dominate in market share—holding just under 1% of global smartphone shipments last year—it plays a crucial role in shaping the Android experience and influencing the broader mobile ecosystem.
Pixel as Google’s AI Flagship
Even though Pixel’s commercial footprint is modest, its role as Google’s AI hardware testbed is becoming increasingly critical. Each device is optimized to run Google’s latest generative AI tools, ensuring that users get the most out of Android’s evolving capabilities. Unlike competitors who depend on third-party operating systems or cloud solutions, Google tightly integrates hardware and software—much like Apple’s approach with the iPhone.
With the Pixel 10 series, especially the foldable variant, Google hopes to not only attract early adopters but also reinforce its brand as a leader in AI-powered devices.
