iPhone 17 Pro Likely to Skip Bold Design Changes

Rumors of major design changes for Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have surfaced recently. Many expected a gradual design shift. Leaks—including renders, dummy units, and online images—added to the excitement. However, Apple analyst Mark Gurman said Apple might stick with the current Pro model’s design. This may surprise customers who hoped for bold changes.

Apple might not deliver a drastic redesign this year. Still, we’ve reported on a few upgrades that may appear in the next-gen iPhone. These include a revamped camera module and a dual-tone finish. Here’s what we currently know about the iPhone 17 Pro’s design.

iPhone 17 Pro Design Upgrades

Fans have hoped for a bold new look. But Apple may keep the iPhone Pro design similar to the iPhone 16 Pro. In a Bloomberg article, Gurman said, “The iPhone Pro isn’t a major departure from current models.” He also noted Apple might skip the “dark-black camera block.” The rear panel and camera color could stay the same.

Gurman raised another concern. Apple may not release a smaller Dynamic Island this year, leaving the design mostly unchanged. Still, there’s hope for a redesigned camera bar. Apple could enlarge the top section to include three sensors, a microphone, and a LiDAR scanner in the right corner.

Apple may delay major updates until its 20th anniversary in 2027. Gurman believes Apple could be saving big changes for the iPhone 19 series. That model may honor Apple’s legacy with cutting-edge innovation.

iPhone 17 Pro: What to Expect

While design changes might be minimal, Apple may improve the hardware. Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Pro could get an A19 chip and 12GB of RAM. That’s an upgrade from the current 8GB. Apple may also add a 24MP selfie camera and a 48MP telephoto lens. Improvements to the Action button, Dynamic Island, and battery life are also expected.
