After Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly is named the best Indian opener. It's neither Sachin Tendulkar nor Rohit Sharma.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has lavished former opener Virender Sehwag with accolades. Ganguly believes that, other from Sunil Gavaskar,

Sehwag is the best opener for India. One of the most daring batters the cricket world has ever seen was Sehwag, who represented India from 1999 to 2013.

He played for the Indian squad that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Ganguly made the statement in the trailer

“The Greatest Rivalry – India vs Pakistan” is a documentary series on the cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan. Ganguly made the statement in the teaser. On February 7, the documentary will debut on Netflix.

“After (Sunil) Gavaskar, the greatest opener is Virender Sehwag,” stated Ganguly. Former Indian opener Sehwag played his first Test match against South Africa in 2001 after making his ODI debut against bitter rivals Pakistan in 1999. In Test cricket, he is the only batsman from India to have scored two triple hundreds. Don Bradman, Chris Gayle, and Brian Lara are the other three batters who have reached the milestone, making Sehwag the fourth overall.

The right-handed batsman also scored a double century in the ODI format. He slammed 219 runs against the West Indies in 2011.

In the game’s longest format, Sehwag scored 32 half-centuries and 23 hundreds. Because he amassed 1,282 runs, including six hundreds, in 10 Test matches, he was also named the 2010 ICC Test Player of the Year.

In ODIs, Sehwag smashed 15 hundreds and 38 half-centuries.

At the height of his powers, bowlers feared Sehwag, also referred to as the ‘Nawab of Najfgarh‘. He had an incredible career because of his energy and fierce approach to scoring runs fast. The right-handed hitter solidified his place in Indian cricket’s pantheon by scoring more than 16,000 runs for India in all formats.
