The 2025 Champions Trophy impasse
After a protracted dispute, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Men in Blue will not visit the neighboring country. As the 2025 Champions Trophy (CT) moves towards a hybrid model, India and Pakistan are expected to confirm that they will not tour each other for any cricket assignment for the next three years. The International Cricket Council (ICC) decided at its meeting on Friday to use a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, meaning that India will play their matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A similar arrangement has been agreed to for all ICC events until 2027, according to a report by the Press Trust of India. The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup and the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The Indian women’s team will travel outside the country to play Pakistan in the 2025 Women’s World Cup if the two teams are selected together. Pakistan will play their matches in Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to co-host the T20 World Cup. This arrangement may result in the 2026 T20 World Cup final being held outside of India with the India-Pakistan match taking place in Sri Lanka. Along with the two ICC events, the agreement also covers the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) premier event, according to the Times of India (TOI). India is also scheduled to host the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup. The BCCI announced last month that the Indian government had denied the team permission to travel to Pakistan for security grounds, casting doubt on the 2025 Champions Trophy’s future. Since the Asia Cup in 2008, the Men in Blue have not played in Pakistan.
