Which 4 Major Women Schemes Launched by Droupadi Murmu?
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday launched four major women-centric welfare schemes of the Delhi Government at a special programme titled “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi” held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the national capital. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening women’s mobility, financial security and overall empowerment.
Addressing a large gathering, President Murmu highlighted the importance of policies that promote women’s independence and ensure their active participation in social and economic life. She said that providing safe and affordable transport, along with household financial support, plays a crucial role in empowering women and strengthening families.

Toggle1. Pink National Common Mobility Card Launched
One of the key initiatives launched was the Pink National Common Mobility Card, designed to offer women seamless and safer access to public transportation. The card enables integrated travel across multiple modes of transport, simplifying daily commuting for women across the city.
The President noted that initiatives such as free bus travel and integrated transport access significantly enhance women’s freedom of movement. Improved mobility, she said, directly contributes to greater employment opportunities, education access and social participation for women.

2. Two Free LPG Cylinders Annually
In another major welfare step, President Murmu launched a scheme providing two free LPG cylinders annually to ration card-holding families. The cylinders will be distributed during the festivals of Holi and Diwali, offering financial relief to households, particularly benefiting women who manage domestic responsibilities.
Officials said the scheme aims to ease the burden of rising household expenses and ensure continued access to clean cooking fuel. By aligning distribution with major festivals, the government intends to provide timely support during periods of higher household expenditure.
3. Continued Support for Free Bus Travel
The programme also reinforced the government’s commitment to free bus travel for women, a measure that has been operational in Delhi and widely used by women commuters. The initiative is intended to promote safe, affordable and reliable transportation, reducing economic barriers and encouraging greater workforce participation among women.
President Murmu emphasised that accessible public transport is not just a convenience but a necessity for inclusive development. She said that ensuring women can travel safely and independently contributes to broader social progress.

4. Broader Women Welfare Initiative
In addition to these measures, the Delhi Government announced another women-centric welfare initiative focused on strengthening social security and empowerment frameworks. While details were outlined by officials at the event, the overall objective is to create a supportive ecosystem that addresses women’s financial stability, safety and opportunities.
The combined package of schemes reflects a broader policy direction aimed at improving quality of life for women across socio-economic backgrounds.
Focus on Empowerment and Inclusion
During her address, President Murmu stated that empowering women is central to national development. She underlined that initiatives that reduce financial strain, improve mobility and enhance safety enable women to contribute more effectively to society.
The event witnessed participation from senior Delhi Government officials, policymakers and beneficiaries. The programme theme, “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi,” underscored the government’s emphasis on linking women’s empowerment with overall prosperity of the capital.
A Step Toward Stronger Social Support
The launch of the four schemes comes amid continued efforts to strengthen welfare delivery mechanisms in Delhi. By focusing on practical support measures — including transport access and cooking fuel subsidies — the government aims to address everyday challenges faced by women and low-income families.
Observers note that such targeted welfare initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also have long-term social impact by improving access to opportunities, healthcare and education.
As the schemes roll out, authorities are expected to monitor implementation to ensure smooth delivery and maximum outreach. With mobility, affordability and empowerment at the centre of the new measures, the Delhi Government has signalled its intention to deepen its focus on women’s welfare.
