An NRI who resides outside may be added to the Indian electoral roll, according to the Election Commission of India. According to information from the Election Commission, voters who are not citizens of India are enumerated under a special area labeled ‘Overseas Electors’ at the conclusion of the electoral roll for the residence address where they currently hold their passport.
Who are electors from abroad?
The Election Commission defines an overseas elector as an Indian citizen who is temporarily absent from India because of work or educational obligations and who has not earned citizenship in any other nation. The non-resident Indian (NRI) person may also register to vote in the constituency where their passport-listed Indian abode is located.
Any changes in an overseas voter’s residential address must also be reported to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). An NRI must notify the ERO in order to register as a general voter in the Indian constituency of their usual home if they move to India.
